MUD delayed for the summer

We haven’t received official notice yet but it looks like the MUD bill won’t be progressing over the Summer. Obviously this is very disappointing for all of us but we’ll be using the time to lobby for our remaining wishlist items.

Update: Good news – it looks like the second stage might happen just before they close for the Summer. If it does, it means work can continue during the summer. Fingers crossed time!

New forum

We’ve launched a new forum on our website this morning. You can use it to discuss anything to do with apartments or the Apartment Owners Network. If you have questions about your complex, your management company or your agent, post them here. If you’re a director of your company and want help from other directors, post here.

Movement on the MUD front!

The MUD Bill passed Report and Final Stage in the Seanad on Tuesday (2nd June). The Dail Second Stage will take place next Wednesday and Thursday (9th and 10th June).

If all this is double dutch to you, it means the Seanad has completed it’s work on the bill and now it moves to the Dail. It will be debated a few more times, some changes will be made and at some stage (hopefully Autumn but there are no guarantees), it will be voted on and present to the President to be passed into law. Yes, it’s slow going but it’s still moving (which is great) and they’re still listening to us and taking on board our advice.

We’re meeting regularly with the Law Society, the Department of Justice and some political parties to keep pushing the importance of the bill and to remind them of the remainder of our wishlist.

The issue of completion is still outstanding, we’re still working on that and the Dept of Environment is also looking at it (from a different angle). There are also problems with the bond, house rules and the apportionment of service charges but we’ll keep battering away at those.

You can download a copy of the bill as it stands right now.

  • New Legislation

Our main project at the moment is to make sure that new legislation for apartment owners is as good as possible and is passed as soon as possible. Click here for an overview.

Currently we're in discussions with the Department of Justice and it's progressing well. Almost everything we originally proposed has been included and we're negotiating them on the final details.

Hopefully it will make it to the Dail in the Autumn but there's no firm deadline yet.
